I learned a valuable lesson this week. Some rules are meant to be broken.
I am talking about the rules that you don’t want to follow because you know in your heart that they are not right. It is a long story but in short I went to three different schools and talked to whoever would listen and in the end all is well.
I confirmed it
Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. I refused to take no for an answer .
These days who wants their daughter to grow up believing in princesses. After all her happily ever after will not be as happily ever after as Cinderella. Cinderella seems to be this helpless girl who won’t stand up for herself against her ugly step sisters and mother until wonderful prince charming comes and rescues her. Do I want to be Cinderella? Well I love her cheerful way of finding the joy around her in spite of her family trying to convince her otherwise. She is kind to the birds and all the animals around her. She is even kind to those who treat her mean.
Lately I have been reading about the Tudor era and I began thinking what is it about this era that has captivated me and keeps me turning page after page. Then it hit me Princesses like Lady Jane Grey, Queen Elizabeth Woodville, wife of Edward III, Queen Jane Seymour, Lay Margaret, Queen Elizabeth and even Anne Boleyn were educated, graceful, cultured, religious and were wise. These women have significantly left a legacy that mystify and captivate readers like myself today. What is so extraordinary about these woman is that they were powerful and this wasn’t so easy to do at this time. Especially when you are married to a king. Behind every great king was a great Queen. Well Queen Anne was powerful and she did get what what she wanted but she became too powerful for a woman of her time and paid the ultimate price.
Reminds me of a quote by Dr. Sues. He says that those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. These women did not mind and they matter still today. Some paid a heavy price but when all is said and done they all were beautiful, wise, graceful and had courage. I suppose I admire these women and secretly wish I could be a princess. I can be a princess but without the title of course. Oh if only Jonathan Myers could be my king. Much can be learned from the princesses of the past.
